How to Purchase an Item
Betty and Michael Klapper, retired academics, started Art at the Center, the Judaica Gallery in order to provide well designed, well fabricated and interesting Judaica--items with a presence that demands aesthetic respect. Betty and Michael opened their gallery within the Jewish Community Center of Columbus, Ohio. There they have been selling items that fascinate them--the elegant and the funky, modestly priced gifts or museum quality collector's objects, Jewish ceremonial objects in various media, antique or contemporary crafts, art, posters, and more - a collection that contains something for everyone over a broad range of prices.
This Web store is the virtual extension of that gallery.
One of our goals is to offer our customers reasonable prices. So within the continental United States we ship items at no cost to the customer (with a very few exceptions); and we try to set our prices as low as possible.
For unique works of art, antiques or multiples, such as prints, price is dependent on various factors, among which are condition, popularity and rarity. For such items we set a price based on our experience in the market and our evaluation of the quality of the piece.
With other items, we set our prices to be the lowest on the Web. However, the Web is so large that we cannot track all the Judaica sold there. So, if you purchase an item from us and then find, within two weeks of shipment, a lower price (including shipping) elsewhere on the Web, send us the URL of the site. We may not always set the lowest price, but we can certainly lower ours to match or do better than our competitors. And for your effort we shall provide a partial refund so that the item's total cost to you will be 10% less than that other price (including shipping) you found.
We are a family owned and run gallery. Nonetheless, we attempt to ship all orders by the next business day. This may not always be possible, especially when we receive your order around Shabbat, Jewish holidays, or while we are away. If there is any delay, we will not charge you credit account until we are ready to ship to you.
In order to serve you better, we do need to know something about you. However, this site strives for complete privacy. We do not share in any way with anyone any information about our customers or site visitors. We do not track visitors to our site although we capture limited information to analyze general traffic patterns.
On the Internet, it is difficult to evaluate an item given only a short description and an image. We do attempt to describe as fully as we find reasonable each item for sale on this site. And we guarantee that the description so given is accurate (with the provison tah all sizes given are approximate). We also do the best we can with images, but what you see on your monitor cannot, given the state of today's technology, exactly represent the item--in particular when it comes to matching colors. So, if you are dissatisfied with any piece that you have purchased from this site, we will accept it back with a refund, provided that item has not been damaged in any way and is sent back within 3 weeks of our shipping date. We will refund your purchase price minus our cost for shipping the item to you originally. Before returning any piece, please contact us by e-mail or phone and tell us why you wish to return the item. We shall then provide you with a return number to validate the return. WE WILL MAKE NO REFUNDS WITHOUT OUR PRIOR ACCEPTANCE OF YOUR RETURN.
If at any time you come to believe that the written description provided for an item you purchased from us was inaccurate, then please send us an e-mail with your concerns and we shall contact you to discuss the matter.
Purchasing one or more items is quite easy with the Shopping Cart. If you find an item that you wish to buy, click on the "Add to Shopping Cart" button just below that item's description. You are then whisked to the Shopping Cart screen, which is on a secure site. (If you look at the web site address, you can see that this is a https site.)
The item in which you are interested is listed together with its price. To purchase more than one of this item, change the number under "Quantity". However, we often have only one left of many items; please check with us first to find out whether more than one is available. (Return to the item on the web page and send us an e-mail at the address provided.)
If you wish to purchase more items, click "Continue Shopping" on the upper left corner. You can add as many different items into the shopping cart as you want before checking out.
When you are finished shopping, click "Order Checkout" on the top right of the order page. You can also checkout from anywhere else on this site by using the Review/Checkout button on the left panel. Fill in all the information which we need to send your order and click "Proceed with Order" at the bottom of the screen. That's it. You will receive a confirmation of your order by e-mail. We do not charge your credit card until we are ready to ship.
