The bases and candle holders of these hand assembled Israeli candlesticks are sterling silver, the decorated stems are silver plate. The result is an attractive pair of sticks at a modest price.

While our tastes run to more modest contemporary designs, both of us were immediately attracted to the excessive rococo enthusiasm of these late 19th/early 20th century Polish Shabbat candlesticks. The surface modeling is wonderfully done, especially when compared with today's workmanship. The elaborate decoration was clearly meant to remind everyone in the family of the joy that the Sabbath brings. These silver plated candlesticks would certainly take pride of place on your holiday table. On the bottom of one stick is a stamped manufacturer's mark - Handelsman Warszawa within an oval. The sticks are in good condition: a slight distortion of one stick’s bobeche suggests a previous repair; that same stick has a small wobble; and there are difficult to discern nicks and scratches due to normal use.
