 Child's Savings Bank - Israel

Bank HaPoalim distributed this savings bank to children during the late 1960's. Savings programs for children were widespread in Israel during this period with sponsoring organizations including private banking institutions, city governments, the Postal Service, and others. A fuller discussion is available in an article by Haim Grossman entitled, Saving is not Child's Play: The History of Savings Programs for Children in Israel. The article is a contribution to a catalogue for an Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv exhibit - In for a Penny: Savings Boxes from Antiquity to Modern Times This painted metal bank in the shape of a book has minor paint scrapes and scratches and a slightly bent corner. The decal with an image of an elf, "Dan the Saver" holding a sack of coins has a small loss in the upper left corner. The key is a replacement, but the lock still works. Considering that the bank was intended for young children, it is in remarkably good condition.

height - 4 1/2"; width - 3 3/8"; depth - 1 5/8"

Price: $125.00

Glass & Stone Kiddush Cup Set

An unusual kiddush cup - the glass cup, on which is engraved l'chaim is set into a polished Jerusalem stone base. A matching polished small Jerusalem stone tray comes with the cup. Engraved around the border of the tray is the phrase shabbat v'yom tov and within the recessed surface boreh pri hagofen. The supports on the tray are designed so that it can lie flat for the cup or stand up as a decorative piece. Because the pieces are made of natural stone, each set is unique.

cup: height - 6 1/4", rim diameter - 2 5/8", base - 2 1/2" x 2 1/2". Tray: without supporting legs 6 3/8"; height when standing - 7 1/2"
