 Israeli Postal Authority Poster

Bring your message to the post office before noon and it will be delivered overnight, at least that is what the Israeli Post Office promises in this attractive early (1952) poster. The designer’s name, Wallish (1903-1977), appears in the lower right corner. Wallish was born in the Sudentenland of prewar Czechoslovakia and emigrated to Palestine in 1934. He designed a number of posters for the Post Office in addition to his work for other commercial companies. He was involved in designing Israel’s first postage stamps, the well known ancient coins set, and the symbol for the Post Office, the prancing deer also seen in this poster. The poster is backed onto linen and is in excellent condition.

The text in the image derives from verse 24 in Psalm 104, How manifold are Your works. O Lord! In Wisdom have You made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures. The print is in excellent condition and is signed (in Hebrew) and dated (1984) in pencil on the lower left.paper dimensions: height - 15" x 22"

The stem and base are constructed of Yemenite-style silver strands; and the Hebrew words Shabbat Shalom are embedded in the stem. Stamped on the underside of the stem is the mark of the artist (Ben-Zion David) and the sterling mark (925).

 JNF Poster

The graphic language of this JNF poster is typical of that used during the early days of the State of Israel. A hand clutching (presumably rich) soil is set against a background of plowed fields and a farming community's structures. The Zionist message declares that the Jewish homeland will be redeemed by cultivating the land. The poster (photo-offset on a lithograph background) has faintly visible pinholes in the 4 corners, a few minor dings on the edges and is backed with linen.

height - 18 3/4"; width - 12 3/4"

Price: $550.00

 Israeli Postal Authority

This is a 1966 poster that Eliezer Weishoff designed for the Israeli Postal Authority. Replicas of 5 stamps on the theme of road safety (also designed by Weishoff?) are presented as part of a fan, the spokes of which are held together by a string attached to the tag announcing the first day of issue. A very clever design that resembles those of Abram Games who worked with the Israel Postal Authority in the mid-50s. The poster is in very fine condition with two repaired tears and a small fold in the upper left edge.

dimensions: height - 38 1/2"; width - 27 1/4"

Artist: Eliezer Weishoff
Price: $600.00
