  MADE IN ISRAEL

We carry a large number of Israeli made items in our gallery. If you wish to support Israeli artists and crafts people by buying their work, we have collected these items into this section for your convenience.

 Israeli Poster

Eliezer Weishoff designed this poster to advertise an event typical to many held in Israel at that time - a meeting that brings groups from outside the country to meet and mingle with Israelis. This one held in 1965 was for youths from cities in Israel "twinned" with cities from outside Israel. The style of the poster is reminiscent of designs brought by Abram Games to Israel when he worked with the Israel Postal Authority in the mid-50s, and is quite different from Weishoff's later posters. A large gold key, presumably of welcome, with the twin faces of two children floats on a royal blue background. Sans serif lettering in French, English and Hebrew announces the get together and its date. The poster is in fine condition with one small repaired tear on right edge and small in-painted areas on the gold of the key near top of poster.

dimensions: height - 38 1/2"; width - 27 1/4"

 EL Al Poster - Jerusalem

This poster is one of a set that Dan Reisinger designed in the 60's to highlight the various countries to which El Al had flights. The regal lion (symbol of the Jewish people) sits as the letter L in the airline company's name - the featured city is, of course, Jerusalem. The artist's signature appears in the upper right corner of the plate.

This magnificent silk screen poster, backed onto linen, is in very good condition with vivid colors. There are some minor repairs to what were small scrapes in the background.

poster size: height - 26 7/8"; width - 18 3/4"

Price: $700.00

 El Al Poster - Copenhagen

In the ‘60s, El Al published a series of silk screen posters advertising the cities to which its planes flew. The posters were all designed by Dan Reisinger who based them on a common theme - "El Al", in san serif, appears on a one-color background with one of the letters replaced by an iconic symbol for that city. For this Copenhagen poster a stylized deep pink mermaid replaces the first L of the airline's name on a sea green background. Backed on linen, this poster is in very good condition with a few minor repaired tears along the borders and barely visible handling marks in the image.

poster height - 27 1/4"; poster width - 19"

Price: $700.00

 Poster - Israel Postal Authority

All resemblance aside, this is not Rudolph the Reindeer flying through the clouds. The flying deer is an Israeli Postal Authority logo, and this deer sports a chanukiah instead of antlers (and no red nose) in order to advertise a suggested Chanukah gift - a subscription for the purchase of future postage stamps. A humorous and eye-catching 60's(?) lithographic poster in good condition with repairs on the right side into the image and minor repairs elsewhere along the edges. The poster is backed onto linen and will be sent rolled

height - 27 1/4"; width 19 1/2"

Price: $710.00

 Genesis - Hand-Made Book
An extraordinary book entirely hand-made by Ariel Vardi; who designed the font, made the type, printed the pages, designed and made the prints, and bound the book. A monoprint (The artist pulls one or a few different prints from a plate.) adorns the cover of this approximately 7" x 5" book so that each book of the edition is unique. Inside there is a signed intaglio print. But what makes this book so wonderful is that the opening pages parallel the Genesis story; on the first page of text there are randomly placed Hebrew letters, which are rearranged in subsequent pages to more ordered patterns until the letters are assembled into the Hebrew text of Genesis, chapters 1-2. The book is numbered (10) and signed by Vardi on the colophon page. This is a fantastic item for any book collector.

 Israeli Poster

The Israeli Army (Zahal) sponsored an evening concert called, “To Jerusalem from Zahal with Love and with Flowers”. The program was held in the beautiful setting of the Sultan’s Pool, a park just below the western wall of the Old City of Jerusalem. The image on the poster advertising this 1980 event is a magnificent view of the illumined Old City Wall, as seen from east to west, with fireworks in the sky above. The poster is backed onto linen and is in good condition, with some surface scuffing evident on the blue background and traces of faint staining derived from tape that was removed from the back. We will ship this poster rolled into a sturdy tube.

height – 38 1/2“, width – 25 1/8“

Price: $800.00
